SUMMARY:Syntropic gardening and self sufficiency
DESCRIPTION:Location is: Waimauku. You will be sent the address after registering with Bridget\n\n\n\nTour Fletcher Farm where gardener Seth and landowner Kirsty are cooperating to create a self-sufficient permaculture oasis. Starting two years ago their project is now flourishing and includes a food forest\, annuals vegetable garden\, compost making and extensive perennial and tree plantings.  \n\n\nSeth is an arborist who has trained in permaculture design and has a passion for syntropic agroforestry. \n\n\n\n “I spend my evenings and weekends in the garden\, sowing seeds\, planting plants\, pruning plants and trees and just observing the beauty that nature creates with me as part of its system. We have chickens\, ducks\, two cows and two horses. We make compost for the annual garden beds and the food forest runs itself with a little help from me”  \n– Seth\n\n\n \nThese days the idea of small scale self sufficiency has never made more sense. Not owning land doesn’t need to be a barrier. Come along and be inspired by those who have found a way to make it work. Learn how to work with nature to produce an abundance of food\, and simply enjoy the beauty and harmony of this space. \n \nPlease note…We have set a limit of 20 people for this event so if you plan to come you do need to register emailing me. Once I hear from you I will confirm your registration and provide further details including the address of the property. \n\nLooking forward to seeing you there\,\nBridget

SUMMARY:Permakai farm visit - deferred to Spring
DESCRIPTION:This has been deferred to Spring\, new date tba\n  \nOpportunity to tour Rory and Jennifer’s organic farm in Waiuku. Permakai is a market garden with a difference. It is an example of collective farming where young people have the chance to develop their own business under the Permakai umbrella. They pay a nominal rent an under Rory and Jennifer’s stewardship they develop and grow produce for market\, box schemes\, and wholesale. \nIn this way Rory and Jennifer are achieving their dream of creating a resilient community. The farm has been designed using Permaculture principles and there are examples of agro-forestry\, food forest\, natural pest control\, use of microclimates\, and more. \nExperienced educators\, this should be an informative and enjoyable event. \nFor those who wish you can come earlier after 11:00 and bring a plate for a shared lunch at 12:00. \nClosed clean footwear mandatory for the farm tour.
